The Roschen Mechanical Pipe Cutter (MPC) reduces logistical and
environmental constraints, delivering precise downhole pipe cutting
without ballistics or hazardous chemicals, reducing NPT, risk, and
intervention costs.
The MPC tool also delivers precise downhole pipe cutting without
damaging external tubulars. Cutting penetration is continuously
measured and controlled, confirming the cut has been made and
avoiding damage to external tubulars or control lines. The MPC's
temperature and pressure ratings allow you to cut pipe in hotter
and deeper environments while eliminating expensive and
time-consuming coiled-tubing or pipe operations.
Our revolutionary pipe cutter saves time with rapid deployment, a
controlled cut with minimal debris, and confirms the pipe cut has
been made and is free before coming out of the hole. If the pipe is
not free, the MPC enables you to attempt another cut while
downhole, saving hours of time. The MPC can be used on a variety of
pipe types and sizes: drillpipe, tubing, and casing from standard
steel to superalloys. The MPC can cut pipe at any angle, including
horizontal.
Our 2 1/8-in. [54-mm] tool is for downhole pipe sizes from 2 7/8
in. [73-mm] to 4 1/2 in [114 mm]. Our 3 1/4-in. [83 mm] tool is for
downhole pipe sizes from 4 in. [102 mm] to 7 in. [178 mm].
Mechanical / Hydraulic External Cutter Coring Tool for Steel Pipe
The Mechanical External Cutter consists of a a top sub, body,
guide, knives, spring dog assembly, thrust washer, thrust bearing,
preload sleeve, feed ring, main spring, and shear pins. The
automatic spring-fed knives feature of this tool prevents excessive
strain from being applied from the rig floor that could cause the
knives to burn or break before the cut is completed.
The Hydraulic External Cutter consists of a top sub, segmented
piston assembly, knives, knife pins, guide screw, body, and guide.
A hydraulically fed piston forces the knives of this cutter into
the pipe to give the operator sensitive cutting control.

Sever single or multiple strings of casing or drillpipe
Hydraulic pipe cutter
For severing single or multiple strings of casing, the hydraulic
pipe cutter has three heavy-duty cutter arms dressed with crushed
carbide. It is capable of completing a cutout in most weights and
grades of casing, conductor pipe, and marine risers. Available for
pipe from 3 1/2- to 72-in, the cutter will complete operations for
concentric, eccentric, cemented, and noncemented pipe strings.
The hydraulic pipe cutter uses a proprietary knife return system to
ensure that the knives are secured in a retracted position while
running in hole, eliminating the need to banding or wedging. This
feature also assists with knife retraction once pumping has
stopped. To eliminate the risk of pulling the tool before the
string has been completely severed, pressure indications are
provided at surface. The knife return system ensures retraction and
retention regardless of wellbore inclination.
Mechanical casing cutter
To increase flexibility and reduce rig time while cutting casing
and drillpipe, the mechanical casing cutter is designed to quickly
convert to alternate inside cutting diameters. Available for casing
from 4 1/2- to 13 3/8-in, the tool comprises
. friction assembly to assist setting the tool in the pipe
. slip assembly to anchor the tool
. retractable cutting assembly
. automatic nut that permits repeated resetting and disengaging of
the tool without returning to surface.
Often, no conversion of the mechanical casing cutter is needed for
cutting different pipe diameters; only change of the slips and
friction blocks are required.
